Yet another change in vibe compared to the previously released songs. The concept behind this one was to follow the sonata-allegro form, which many classical compositions (almost exclusively every first movement of symphonies, concertos, sonatas, string quartets etc. from the classical period) are based on. It has three main sections – exposition (which, in this case, is played by a woodwind quintett, complemented by a bass clarinet), development (this is where the „metal band“ and vocals enter) and recapitulation (roughly at 3´:47´´). This particular variant of the form concludes with a coda (the clean guitar section at the end).
I wrote the lyrics reflecting on a horn audition for an orchestra I did, they are quite self-explanatory: about overcoming obstacles, learning lessons from when we do not succeed and finding the motivation to move on and try again.
The song also features Tom Fountainhead on Turkish Oud – one of the most precious moments on the whole album for me. Also James' vocals are out of this world on this one! It was the first for track for which he sent me the vocals and I was instantly convinced that he was the right guy for the job.
Another interesting fact is that, initially, I planned this to be an instrumental song, but Tom talked me into adding vocals and I couldn't be happier to have accepted his advice!

The thorn was in my mind again
It stung and caused that well known pain
